Spargo Space

AI-enabled in-space refueling and docking

About Spargo Space

Spargo Space is developing an autonomous docking and refuel spacecraft in order to enable sustained spacecraft operations beyond Earth orbit. The company’s core technology uses vision-language models (VLMs) for spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) under degraded or uncertain sensing conditions. This approach allows vehicles to perform autonomous rendezvous, docking, and refueling without full reliance on ground control or pristine visual data.

Founded by aerospace engineers with experience at NASA and in deep-space systems engineering, Spargo Space addresses the growing demand for autonomous servicing capabilities across cislunar and GEO markets. The company’s long-term goal is to establish a network of intelligent logistics modules that can extend spacecraft lifetimes, support exploration missions, and enable a sustainable in-space economy.

Problem statement

Modern spacecraft lack the ability to refuel or autonomously service themselves once in orbit, which forces missions to end prematurely despite otherwise functional systems. As space operations expand toward cislunar space, long communication delays and harsh environmental conditions make ground-controlled rendezvous and docking unsustainable. Current guidance systems rely on brittle, sensor-specific algorithms that struggle under degraded lighting, occlusion, or sensor loss.

Spargo Space addresses this gap by developing autonomous refueling and logistics systems powered by vision-language models (VLMs) that interpret multi-sensor data and execute docking maneuvers with human-like reasoning. This technology enables reliable in-space servicing under uncertain conditions, extending spacecraft lifetimes and reducing replacement costs across commercial, defense, and exploration markets.
