About PROPEL Tech Hub

The PROPEL Tech Hub, led by the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, aims to become a global leader in end-to-end precision medicine. This Tech Hub will leverage the region’s density of life sciences assets and research and development expertise to weave together disparate technology applications: biotechnology, medical technology, genomics, synthetic biology supported by artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and more. Together, these tech-enabled efforts will deliver new ways to diagnose, prevent, and treat disease, increasing evidence-based technology applications that improve morbidity and mortality and decrease health disparities.

Problem statement

The PROPEL Tech Hub, led by the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, seeks to address the critical need for an integrated, end-to-end precision medicine ecosystem that can harness the region’s extensive life sciences assets and research expertise. By uniting biotechnology, medical technology, genomics, synthetic biology, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, the Hub aims to revolutionize the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases. This effort is driven by the need to increase the efficiency of technology commercialization, train a diverse biomanufacturing workforce, and enhance collaboration across institutions, civic organizations, and private enterprises. Ultimately, the Hub aspires to improve health outcomes, reduce health disparities, and ensure equitable access to precision medicine advancements in the region.

- 7,500 new jobs: The Hub is projected to create 7,500 new high-paying jobs with average salaries of $125,750, resulting in a total of 20,475 jobs, earnings of $2 billion, and over $175 million in taxes.
- 1,730 additional jobs: For every 1,000 direct jobs created, an estimated 1,730 additional indirect or induced jobs will be generated, contributing more than $273 million in earnings and roughly $23.5 million in taxes.
- 100 regional organizations: The initiative involves over 100 regional organizations from the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Camden MSA, demonstrating strong engagement and commitment from a diverse array of institutions, civic organizations, and private enterprises.
